Profile
In the early 1800’s, a flood of German immigrants moved westward across the United States in search of a new homeland. Upon seeing the vast, rolling hills and pristine waterways of Madison County that reminded them of their beloved Old Country, they knew they had found their new homeland.
Frederick Schulte was among those immigrants. He came to Madison County with his widowed mother from the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany. He would grow up to be a prominent citizen and entrepreneur, farming the land and raising a family. His farm was located on what is now officially County Road 212, but is still locally. known as Schulte Lane. In the 1800’s he constructed a three-story concrete silo which continues to stand today. The “Old Schulte Farm” on Schulte Lane is now home to Vance Vineyards and Winery which Robin Vance began building in 2005. The old silo is now a clock tower and a centerpiecec of the landscaping. All the tasting room construction is done in the German architectural style, as well as the entry towers and the plantings. Visitors to the winery will easily imagine themselves in the heart of German wine country. How fitting to find this experience in historic Madison County, amid the groves of native trees at the foothills of the Ozarks.
Vance Vineyards and Winery is a small, but growing, family-owned business. With fourteen acres now under cultivation, the vineyards are a visual delight. Although we are a new winery, our winemaker, Roy Paris, has been producing fine wines for more than 30 years. His skill and experience assures that every bottle is worthy of the Vance Vineyards label.
The beautiful tasting room houses a banquet and meeting room, a hearth room with a piano bar, and a small gift shop. Several balconies and patio areas, one with an outdoor stone fireplace, provide ample and comfortable seating for viewing the lake, the historic old silo and, of course, the vineyard.
We produce a wide range of wines from dry to sweet, white to red; so you will be sure to find a wine that suits your taste perfectly. We also serve Vance Wheat Beer and Vance Ale. Our gift shop has a nice selection of cheese, sausage, crackers and fruit to enjoy with our wonderful wines. We feature Oberle sausage and smoked pork loin. Also remember, picnics are always welcome, so feel free to pack a basket of your own favorite foods. Outdoor picnic areas are available in secluded hide-aways or down by the lakeside.
